Add this shop to my favorites. Rare large decorative earthenware plate from the Sèvres Manufacture, signed A. Naudy for the decorator André Naudy, with an African-inspired decoration of a beautiful naked woman sitting in a colorful interior, dating back to the 1930s Art Deco XXth century. This plate is in very good condition and of exceptional quality. Old label trace (from exhibition or collection) on the back. The African-inspired decoration presented here is part of the 1930s period and more broadly of the interwar period where African themes and decorations were very trendy and popular; highlights of this craze were the Paris Colonial Exhibition of 1931 and 1937. Our plate (Sèvres signature letter C = 1930) could have been presented at one of these exhibitions. Note: minimal signs of wear due to age, see photos. André Naudy was a decorator at the Sèvres Manufacture in 1925 and from 1928 to 1934. He worked with the decorator Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann.
